Tonny Skammelsen Schmidt
Born in 1968 in a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark. Educated as a graphic designer between 1984 and 1987.
Following my inherent desire to paint, and after a few successful exhibitions in Denmark, I came to Portugal in 2001. Here, I found that I had the daylight hours, the peace and the inspiration needed to pursue my art.
About the Paintings
I approach the empty canvas with the freedom and innocence of a child, without any preconceived ideas. But each painting turns out to be a struggle that takes me from frustration and desperation to enlightenment and then finally harmony.
It is this process of unfolding, understanding and developing the secrets of the painting before me that keeps me going.
I am certain that abstract paintings can carry a secret or certain wisdom of realities invisible to the human eye ... depths that can not be revealed by mathematical equations.
